On July 9, Alberta Education announced 41 public school projects, including the replacement Peace Wapiti Academy, that will be fast-tracked through the Province’s Schools Now program.
“Getting schools built faster matters to Alberta families. By accelerating 41 projects through the Schools Now program, we are moving more than 39,000 student spaces closer to construction and ensuring communities see real progress sooner,” says Minister of Infrastructure, Martin Long.
Peace Wapiti Public School Division Board Chair Lori Grant says she is thrilled with the news. “We have been working toward this moment for a long time. We are proud to be able to offer our students a new space where they can learn and grow.” On behalf of the Division, Trustee Grant thanks Alberta Education and the County of Grande Prairie for their support with the replacement school project.
“The County of Grande Prairie congratulates Peace Wapiti Public School Division on the Province of Alberta’s announcement advancing the replacement of Peace Wapiti Academy,” says Reeve Amanda McDonald. “This is an important milestone for students, families and staff, and it reflects what can be achieved through strong advocacy and partnership. Ensuring residents have access to high-quality educational opportunities close to where they live helps strengthen families and supports the development of safe, active, and connected communities in our County.”
Construction of the replacement Peace Wapiti Academy is scheduled to begin in Spring 2027.
